Carowinds is a popular amusement park for residents in North Carolina and South Carolina. They have amazing roller coasters that range from scary to not too scary. They are now open year round! Not only that, their waterpark area, Carolina Harbor, is included with admission during the summer season. They always offer military discounts. Our kids really liked their Charlie Brown themed areas.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio is open every day except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

Around the holidays, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium plan special events and they put up pretty Christmas lights.

Here's a list of Easter egg hunts in Florence County, South Carolina:

• April 8 - 10, 2022 - Hoppin' Around Flo-Town City-Wide Easter egg hunt. Large Easter eggs will be hidden around the city for you to find! Each egg will have a unique QR code to be scanned with your smart phone to be entered to win a prize! One entry per family per location. Clues will be posted on Flo town Recreation's Facebook and www.CityofFlorenceRecreation.com the morning of April 8th before sunrise. Please respect and follow all park rules, parks are open one our before sunrise to one hour after sunset. For each location that you visit, scan the QR code, and fill out the necessary information your name will be put into a random generator. Three names will be randomly chosen to win one of our prizes! In addition we will have a funny photo contest. Share your funniest photo with us at each location - email the photo to gsturkie@cityofflorence.com along with your full name. After you have shared your photo it will be put on Facebook for everyone to vote! The most voted on by the public will win a prize, as well as the most voted by City of Florence recreational staff.
• April 16, 2022 (Sat) - Mega Egg Hunt 2022 by Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church at 10AM. Over 7,000 eggs for kids ages 0 - 12 years old. There will be 4 age groups. Registration begins at 10AM. Address: 2317 Hoffmeyer Rd., Florence, SC 29501
• April 16, 2022 (Sat) - Eggstravaganza at Moore Farms Botanical Gardens from 10AM - 12PM. This is a ticketed event! $5 (plus fees) for kids 1 - 13 years old and $10 (plus fees) for 14 years old and older. Address: 100 New Zion Rd., Lake City, SC 29560

There's no water park in Florence yet but we do have many options within a couple of hours or less away!

Waterpark & Splash Pad Options

• A favorite place for some water fun is taking the kids to the Waterfall Junction and it's part of the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. It's like an upscale splash pad. They do center on kids. There are areas that are more toddler friendly so you can find the area that is best for your family to sit nearby. I love that zoo and it has a wonderful gardens area, which is where you'll find their splash zones and tree houses! Columbia, SC is only about an hour from Florence. They are only open during the warmer seasons.
  


• There is a waterpark in Hartsville, SC called Neptune Island. Neptune Island Waterpark has a lazy river and is for kids and adults. It could cost a lot though if you have a big family. Hartsville, SC is about 30 - 45 min from Florence.
  


• The Lynches River County Park's Splash Pad in Coward, SC is the best price for the kids! They are strict on what you wear so you can't have any cotton attire on. They will not be shy to point out that your gym wear is not swim wear. I think it's because it does clog up the system if some of that fabric gets in there. Lynches River County Park is about 30 - 45 minutes from Florence.
  


• If you're planning on being in Myrtle Beach anyway, you'll be able to enjoy hotel stays that already have a lazy river! That's the joy of Myrtle Beach! The city also has a handful of big water parks that you can pick from. Myrtle Beach is only about an hour away from Florence and has so many attractions and things to do.
  


• The newest additional to this list is the Splash Pad in Downtown Florence. It opens every Summer. Downtown guests and residents are invited to enjoy it in the Andrew H. Griffin Plaza at 146 South Dargan Street, Florence, SC 29501. The Splash Pad is an interactive water feature designed for children 12 & younger and includes eight spray jets and one column of water with various spray and LED lighting effects. You can read their rules here. It's a free splash page but it is only open in the summer time and between certain hours.
